Corinthians’ Invasion inspires new Timão third shirt

For decades, Fiel Torcida ensures that no matter where Corinthians go, the team always feels like it’s playing at home.

In 1976, 70,000 Corinthians’ fans took over the city of Rio de Janeiro to support Corinthians ahead of the Campeonato Brasileiro’ semi-finals, at the Maracanã, beating the record of highest number of visiting supporters. History looked to repeat itself 24 years later as more than 40,000 fans flooded the stands of the same Brazilian football temple, pushing Corinthians towards their first Club World Cup title. In 2012, the Banco de Loucos travelled even further with 30,000 fans crossing the world to enter the Yokohama Stadium for the Clubs World Cup final, in Japan.


A Corinthians fan does everything they can to watch their team playing and to celebrate that unconditional love. Nike and the club have prepared a special event to promote the announcement of the third shirt of the team. This time, Fiel Torcida performed another type of invasion, taking over Nike.com. “This is not the first tribute on the kits to the Corinthians’ nation. Earlier this year, we prepared a tribute to the 50th anniversary of one of the biggest fans’ group in Brazil, Gaviões da Fiel, who are always in the stands supporting the club,” said Caio Campos, Corinthians’ Marketing Manager. “Fans are the club’s greatest asset and having the reference to Corinthians’ Invasions on our shirts is a way to thank the energy and support received every time Corinthians play, home or away.”

Mainly black and in a V collar, the shirt’s design clearly references the 1976 epic invasion, when the 70,000 fans turned Maracanã their home. On the back of the shirt, historical facts can be found inside of the stamped numbers, but with a surprise, a bus image, symbol of Rio de Janeiro invasions and many other stadiums around Brazil and the rest of the world. An interesting fact is that this illustration can only be seen with the effect of black light. Black shorts and black socks complete the kit.

Fans’ unconditional passion can also be seen in the personalised patches that illustrate each of the three great fan moments – 1976, 2000 and 2012. During the month where the 109th anniversary of the club is celebrated, every fan will be able to customise their shirts with the patches remembering each of the three invasions.


“It’s no secret that football fans are extremely passionate about their teams, but only one club was able to trigger the biggest human movement during times of peace to watch a football game. Wherever Corinthians go, fans will be there. No matter the stadium, the city or even the continent. That’s why we wanted to make a tribute to those who are with Timão everywhere”, said Gustavo Viana, football brand Director of Nike Brazil.

The new shirt was revealed on Friday, September 6 only for Nike.com members. From Saturday, September 7, the shirt will be available at Nike.com, ShopTimão and Arena Corinthians stores. Full collection, which includes single pieces like shirts, jackets and caps, will be available after the September 10.

Corinthians debuted the kit on September 7 against Ceará, at Arena Corinthians, for the Campeonato Brasileiro.
